Bear — Lenormand Oracle card (10♣)

Bear

Bear · card 10♣
strengthpowerauthoritypatronageprotectionexperiencemasterycapitalwealtha boss or leadersomething large

A large, old bear on the summit of a rock — the master of the forest, the most dominant creature there. He is big, strong, and formidable; he may look slow, but at full charge he outruns a horse, and that is precisely why you must never underestimate him. He fears nothing, is wise and shrewd, and has an excellent memory. The card's central meanings are something large and significant, colossal yet controlled strength, fearlessness, courage, and iron will. Everything this kind of person possesses was won along a hard road, through trial and error — they are truly self-made — and so this is the card of professionals, seasoned masters, authority, and power. The bear respects others' boundaries, but he will not surrender what is his without a fight. He lives long — hence the themes of age, the past, and wisdom; he eats constantly — hence the connection with nourishment. The card is double-edged: whether it will elevate you or overwhelm you depends on the cards beside it.

Life Areas

❤️Love & Relationships

First and foremost, old love — memories, contact with a former partner; a long-standing marriage, a reliable and caring husband. The partner is often significantly older, influential, and dominant. Relationships are frequently built on mutual benefit, on the pooling of resources and capital; for a woman, a high-status protector figure; a heightened sexual energy and jealousy that can flare into rage.

💼Work & Money

A boss, a superior, a master of their craft, a seasoned professional, a senior colleague; a person under contract in uniform, people in positions of power, business leaders of any scale. Financially — large sums, investments, expensive property (with The House), significant capital and turnover; a solid long-term client. In the negative, obstacles and pressure from above.

🩺Health

Strength and good health; inner optimism accelerates recovery; a bear-like constitution and a tendency to physical laziness. Digestion, the stomach, nutrition, and diet; an old, long-standing illness; the themes of ageing and hair.

Person / Character

Formidable in every sense: extraordinarily strong physically and morally, with the ability to succeed even in hopeless circumstances. A believer in self-discipline and merciless self-criticism, hard-wired to overcome personal weaknesses. Does not enjoy society and lives apart from it — in the past he has had enough of its 'charms'. What defines him is not height or build but an inner force of spirit that others sense intuitively: when he enters a room, a particular aura of authority and charisma draws every eye. Generous, magnanimous, tolerant, a natural leader; on the shadow side — proud, despotic, a bully to the weak, indifferent to others' feelings, and prone to escaping from reality.

Position №15 in the Grand Tableau

The house of strength and power: the sphere of patronage, authority, resources, and leadership — as well as of pressure and the struggle for power. The card that falls here shows where strength and protection come from, or where the weight is bearing down on you. For example, The Ring in this house — a major, high-status contract; The Clouds in this house — risk of losing what has been built, problems with status and leadership, jealousy.

Timing

Time period

In calm conditions the Bear does not move — he has nowhere he needs to be and no one to run from; but when forced, over a short distance he outruns even a horse. He often represents a person who no longer does anything himself — he only gives orders; others act for him. The card advises you to use the levers of power and authority. Points to the past, to old age; the timeframe is 10–20 years or more. The guideline is over a year.

Mythology

In 1213 Frederick II founded the Order of the Bear as a symbol of courage; the knights saw it as their duty to support the weak. Among Slavic peoples the belief was that a bear spares the defenceless: if you meet one, fall to the ground and it will leave you in peace. From this the bear became a symbol of the nobility and kindness of the strong toward the weak. In Old Russian mythology the bear ('the one who knows honey') is the master of the forest, the ruler of nature, and the national symbol. A bear in a dream is a sign of firm friendship; for a woman it may foretell a suitor.
