Interpretation
The Mountain is an obstacle that has risen suddenly right in your path. Its main action in a spread is blockage: the theme of any neighboring card slows, stalls, runs into a wall. This is a serious, powerful barrier — a disappointment, a delay; The Mountain is immovable and impassable. But the halt is temporary (only The Coffin brings a final stop), and the difficulty can be overcome — everything depends on you. You can go around it, which is long but manageable; you can storm the summit, which is hard but faster; you can wait it out; or you can abandon the goal. This is the card's duality: for someone weak, The Mountain is an excuse to give up; for someone strong, it is a challenge and a springboard that makes you harder. In everyday readings The Mountain can also mean literal mountains, cliffs, cold, or sheer distance.
Life Areas
A cooling and growing distance — a stone wall seems to have risen between the two of you, nerves are raw, and real conversation isn't happening. The relationship has stalled, going nowhere; there is a sense of cold and 'loneliness for two.' Sometimes it is a physical distance — different cities or countries. This is a test: if both partners are willing to act honestly and warmly, the wall can be melted. If not, the union quietly fades.
Stagnation, obstacles, deals that fall through, rejections — career growth is blocked and you are stuck in one place. Someone is deliberately creating interference (look at the personal card nearby). Money may be frozen — delayed or unpaid wages, account problems; every penny feels hard-won.
Recovery is held back, something is blocking it. Adhesions, clots, blockages, stones, immobility; serious illness is possible. Keep your optimism — despair makes it worse.
Person / Character
A heavy and difficult person — in every sense, including getting anything out of them. Often large in build, a 'mountain of a person,' tall or broad, slow to decide. Emotionally cold and distant, with no patience for sentimentality. The most stubborn of all — there is no persuading them, and you will not get an inch of compromise. On the other hand, they have iron endurance and will, formidable mental defenses; they set large goals and pursue them slowly but relentlessly.

Position №21 in the Grand Tableau
The house of obstacles, blocks, and delays — the sphere of what is slowing you down, getting in your way, standing on your path. A card here reveals the nature of the barrier: The Scythe in The Mountain's house means a sharp break, the destruction of what is blocked; The Sun means you have the strength to push through that wall; The Coffin means the block turns into a final stop.
Timing
Nothing is moving right now — everything is blocked. On timing, expect not soon (numbers 21 or 3 are sometimes cited). Distance: large, the path rough and treacherous. Movement becomes possible only by your own will: if The Stork, The Sun, or The Key follows The Mountain, the way will open after all.
Symbolism & Attributes
Mythology
Mountains symbolize obstacles on the path and immovability; 'climbing a mountain' means being ready to take on a problem head-on. The obstacles fate sends are unavoidable — only by passing through trials and hardship can you ascend to the shining heights. Self-control, will, and the drive to win are required; but do not be overconfident — you climb the steep steps quickly, yet the risk of a fall is real.
