Four of Air

Manara Erotic Tarot
restretreatrecoverystillnesssanctuary

Dreaming of the impossible, escape from reality, fantasy, immaturity. Life rushes past while you sit swinging your feet on the swing of daydreams.

The card's image

A girl sits on a strip of film as though it were a swing, her gaze turned toward a starry sky. In her hands she grips a little umbrella; on her feet are unlaced boots; perched at the edge of the film is a seagull. The film strip is her life — but instead of making her film, the heroine rocks back and forth and dangles her feet, hoping everything will "sort itself out." The seagull hints: you may stay just like this, alone with your dreams, having created nothing and known nothing real.

Interpretation

The Four of Air is a card of dreaming of the impossible and fleeing reality. You have floated away into the clouds of fantasy, stubbornly failing to notice life rushing past: instead of making your film you rock on the swing and dangle your feet.

The heroine hopes everything will "sort itself out, come good." But the seagull hints: this way you may remain alone with your dreams, having created nothing outstanding, known no love, felt no real pain, passed no trial of spirit.

The behavior here is that of an immature child: laces came undone — never mind, I might trip; the umbrella is an accessory — maybe I'll fly like Mary Poppins. But the stars overhead are so beautiful, the dreams so grand. Neighboring air-suit cards emphasize this.

Advice & forecast

The card's advice

Allow yourself to dream and to rest, but know your limit: the swing of daydreams is pleasant, only life is rushing past. Lace up your boots — take responsibility for at least one real step, don't wait for everything to "sort itself out." Next to dynamic cards the advice is sterner: come down from the clouds and stop playing the innocent. Don't expect guarantees or serious promises from this season — neither from yourself nor from others.

What the forecast holds

Ahead is a season of empty promises and impossible daydreams, an irresponsible "somehow it will work out." Don't look for serious relations or guarantees here: everything is light, airy, on the swing of fantasy. There may be a sobering seagull-message — news that brings you back to earth. Next to dynamic cards it is time to stop floating and begin making your film rather than swinging on the reel.

Four of Air reversed

The reversed Four of Air is a flight from reality that has become chronic. Light dreaminess freezes into immaturity, where adult life never quite begins: you postpone decisions, feelings, actions to "later," hide in daydreams from pain, responsibility, and challenge. Unlaced boots are not endearing carelessness but a refusal to grow up; the umbrella is not a game but a shield against any real intimacy. In relationships this means empty promises that never materialize, an endless "someday." Or the opposite extreme — you have so thoroughly banished daydreaming that you have burned out every last flicker of lightness and imagination. The reversed card's counsel: come back to earth and take responsibility for your own film strip — shoot at least one frame rather than swinging on it. Real life does not wait for you to finish your dream.

How it differs from Waite

Four of Swords — Rider-Waite-Smith deck
Rider-Waite-SmithFour of Swords
Manara Erotic TarotFour of Air

In Waite the Four of Swords is a knight resting on a tomb in a posture of repose, three swords above him and one below: a pause, restoration of strength, conscious rest after the battle. Manara takes the motif of detachment but colors it with immaturity: not the healing rest of a warrior but a dreamer's flight from her own life. Where Waite says "wise respite," Manara says "escape into daydreams" — rest is allowed, but it must have a measure, or life will pass you by.

Jupiter in Libra — charm and goodwill, but also undeliverable promises, postponing life to later, a show of sweetness. Lightness that sounds beautiful but rarely comes to pass.
