The Sun

Manara Erotic Tarot
joyvitalityclaritysuccess

Freedom from limits, elation and inspiration. New horizons of feeling, a new — often large-scale — goal. To rise above the earthly.

The card's image

A woman soars above clouds lit by the sun's warm rays. Her wings are a mechanism, a hand-made contraption: which means she took responsibility for the flight herself, made a conscious choice. She has broken away from earthly cares and fears of consequences, risen above the temporary and the petty. Her face is turned to the light; ahead lie open space and a new height.

Interpretation

Manara's Sun is about freedom from limits and elation. It is new horizons of knowing and feeling, the wish to rise above the earthly and the temporary, a new — often large-scale — goal. The card is about inspiration and the highest happiness, about breaking away from cares and the fear of consequences.

The heroine's wings are hand-made — she fashioned them herself and took responsibility for the flight. This is a conscious choice, not an accident. Right now you are in a resourceful state: ready to resolve on a serious undertaking that not everyone would take on, able to see the perspective and hold the balance.

There is no need to wait for a special occasion or to seek inspiration — the skills and tools you already have are enough. Even without a clear goal, a direction is enough — toward happiness. And happiness need not be a family one: sometimes you yourself are enough for it.

Advice & forecast

The card's advice

It is time to act: the time for deliberation and weighed decisions has passed. Take the risk, make a step, then another. Spread your wings — and to hell with others' opinions, approval or condemnation. Be yourself, follow your dream at the heart's bidding. Beside dynamic cards, prolong the ascent through action; beside The Moon, check that you haven't taken a fantasy for a real flight.

What the forecast holds

Inspiration by a new goal, happiness or euphoria from pleasant emotions, the freedom to do what you want. Beside dynamic cards this state can be prolonged through action rather than passive waiting.

The Sun reversed

The reversed Sun is about clipped wings or a flight torn loose from the ground. At best an excess of euphoria is cooled into a sober joy: you descend a little below the clouds so the inspiration doesn't carry you off into fantasies, and you direct your strength into a real undertaking. At worst the light goes out: you lose your verve, fold your wings before someone else's condemnation, dim your own brightness for the sake of someone's approval — or, on the contrary, you fly so high in your dreams that you tear loose from reality and risk crashing (greetings to the neighbouring card Judgement). Burnout, dependence on approval, flight into reverie, all appear. The neighbouring cards decide: dynamic ones nearby — a return of verve through action; The Moon and heavy ones — self-deception and a fall. The reversed advice: reclaim your right to shine, but check that there is solid ground beneath your wings.

How it differs from Waite

The Sun — Rider-Waite-Smith deck
Rider-Waite-SmithThe Sun
Manara Erotic TarotThe Sun

In the Waite tradition the Sun is a naked child on a white horse beneath sunflowers: simple, clear joy, innocence, abundance. With Manara joy becomes grown-up and winged: a woman has made her own wings and risen above the clouds — this is about conscious freedom and a large-scale goal. Manara adds the responsibility of choice and independence ('one is enough for one's own happiness'). Where Waite gives serene happiness, Manara calls you to spread your wings and act.
