Observance, level-headedness, and patience. The anticipation before stepping into the open, before a key decision. A time to soberly weigh the situation and make the right choice.
A beautiful young woman peeks shyly out from behind the latticework shutter of a window. Her head is covered with a kerchief, her dark eyes shine with curiosity. Half her face is hidden by the latticed shutter — she sees the situation only in part. Behind her looms the silhouette of a mosque, old dogmas and beliefs. She has not yet stepped out, has not yet made up her mind, but already she anticipates: "what if…"
🪟A latticework shutter before the face — an incomplete view: you know only part, the rest is conjecture and illusion
🧕A kerchief on the head — modesty, restraint, the wish to stay unnoticed for now
🕌A mosque behind her — former dogmas and attitudes that keep you from seeing the situation soberly
Interpretation
Manara's Justice is about observance, level-headedness, and patience. It is the anticipation before stepping into the open, before an important decision, when you still stand in the shadows and take a careful look.
"What if…" — this is the question everyone asks before a step. But you cannot foresee every consequence, cannot cushion every fall a hundred steps ahead. The future is not yours; only the present is in your hands. Until you take the risk, you won't know where you were right and where you erred.
The shutter before the face is an incomplete view: you see the situation only in part, while your mind is full of illusory ideas about it. The mosque behind you is the former dogmas and beliefs that keep you from seeing soberly. It is worth opening your eyes wider and analysing.
Often the card exposes a dependence on others' opinion: "what will people say?" You hold back your desires, you are shy to assert yourself, you hide beneath a cloth of doubts, calculations, and hesitations — but sooner or later the step will have to be taken.
Read it with an eye on the neighbours. Beside The Tower, the indecision hardens into constraints and duty; beside The Sun, on the contrary, it is time to spread your wings and step out of the shadows. The card's main question: are you ready to declare what you want, or would you rather sit it out?

Advice & forecast
✦ The card's advice
Be observant and attentive. Open your eyes wider, analyse what is happening — and when the intricate pattern comes together into a clear picture, the choice will turn out right. Don't rush events, but don't hide forever either. Beside dynamic cards the advice is the reverse: enough peeking out from behind the shutter, it is time to step into the light and speak your desires aloud.
🔮 What the forecast holds
A state of uncertainty: you will deliberate at length, be shy to assert yourself, hold back your desires, and conceal your feelings. Beside static cards this will drag on; beside dynamic ones, it will end in a decisive step out of the shadows.
↓ Justice reversed
Reversed Justice is about a pause dragged on too long, spoiling from within. At best you finally tear yourself away from the shutter: the conjectures scatter, you stop guessing and look at facts rather than at others' expectations. At worst, observance degenerates into paralysis: you hide beneath calculations and "what will people say" for so long that the moment passes, and the decision is made for you. There appears a hindsight self-justification, nitpicking over trifles instead of looking at the whole. The neighbouring cards decide: dynamic ones nearby — a push to step out of the shadows and speak your desires; static and watery ones — getting stuck in doubts. The reversed advice: admit that full knowledge will never come, and take the step with whatever clarity you have.

In the head position, Justice — he takes a careful look and lingers: the feeling may well be there, but he weighs it, glances over his shoulder at "what will people say," and is afraid to take a step. In the heart The Lovers — a genuine pull, the choice already ripening; in the body The Moon — attraction is there, but wrapped in fog and the unspoken. Don't rush him: let him step out of the shadows himself, and meanwhile look at his deeds, not at his wavering.

In the "what is" position, Justice — you are both at the window: taking a careful look, lingering, waiting for a sign of who will make up their mind first. What hinders is The Moon — illusions and conjecture; you fill in each other's motives instead of having an honest talk. But ahead lies The Sun — if you step out of the shadows and say plainly what you want, the relationship will spread its wings. The step will have to be taken, no matter how long you peek out from behind the shutter.

As advice, Justice asks you to open your eyes wider and analyse, rather than guess from behind the shutter. When the pattern comes together into a clear picture, the choice will become yours (The Magician), not that of others' opinion. Right now The High Priestess — you feel the truth intuitively, but stay silent. Trust this instinct and declare your desires — observance is good only as a run-up before the step.

How it differs from Waite
Rider-Waite-SmithJustice
vs
Manara Erotic TarotJustice
In the Waite tradition this is Justice with sword and scales — law, the balance of cause and effect, an impartial verdict. In Manara there is no sword: instead of judgement, a woman at a window who watches and lingers before taking a step. Manara shifts the accent from "the verdict handed down" to "the state before the decision": observation, calculation, a glance over the shoulder at others' opinion. It is the opposite of the Chariot — there a dash forward, here a pause and a gaze from the shadows.
