Queen of Water

Manara Erotic Tarot
intuitionempathyemotional wisdomnurturinginner vision

Femininity, refinement, sensuality, naturalness, bared feelings. The goddess of rain and fertility — but sometimes the 'mother figure' who rescues everyone.

The card's image

A naked woman of a native tribe strolls unhurriedly in the rain. She is not ashamed of her nakedness and does not hide it: beneath the streaming water, in the lap of nature, she feels confident — as if she herself were the goddess of rain, of nature, of fertility. In her is a natural, unfeigned sensuality, a mercy and care that pour as easily as this rain. But that same generosity can turn into the role of the 'mother figure', striving to rescue everyone and to give everyone everything.

Interpretation

The Queen of Water is about femininity, refinement, sensuality and naturalness, about bared feelings. Though the card seems unambiguous, there are two readings. In the first, these are the finest feminine qualities: mercy, compassion, care, tender femininity that pours out easily and without pretence.

In the second reading — the role of the 'mother figure' who sees her calling in rescuing everyone: like the goddess of fertility, to give everyone everything. The same generosity, but burst from its banks, dissolving the woman in care for others to the point of losing herself. This reading appears if cards lie nearby in which the figures show initiative or aggression — for instance, of the fire or water suit.

The card advises cultivating your feminine nature — but not falling into extremes, lest you go to seed. Everything depends on the goal. If you want to be seen as homely, take up house and home; sensual and caring, show sympathy and offer help; sexual and refined, stake everything on your body and allure, setting the rest aside.

Advice & forecast

The card's advice

Cultivate your feminine nature, but do not fall into extremes — care that dissolves you without remainder makes you go to seed. Choose the line to fit your goal: if you wish to seem homely, take up the home; sensual — give warmth and sympathy; refined and desirable — stake everything on the body and do not scatter yourself. Let your feelings pour out naturally, like rain. But watch where there is generosity and where there is the role of the all-rescuing 'mother figure': to give everyone everything means to leave nothing for yourself.

What the forecast holds

Ahead lies an event where you will have to show yourself in a feminine way — or a meeting with a wise, sensual woman from whom you will want to take example. Beside the air suit — pleasant conversation on feminine themes, talk in a circle of women; beside the earth suit — a chance to show yourself a good homemaker or a potential wife. A time of soft strength and bared feelings that draw others in of their own accord.

Queen of Water reversed

The reversed Queen of Water is femininity that has lost its measure. In one direction the care spills over: the role of the 'mother figure' swallows the woman whole, she rescues everyone in sight, gives everyone everything, does good without being asked and dissolves into others' needs, forgetting herself — generosity becomes a way of not living her own life but living others'. Love smothers with guardianship, tenderness turns into intrusiveness. In the other direction the sensuality dries up or distorts: the woman either closes off, is ashamed of her nature, mutes her softness and goes to seed in coldness, or, on the contrary, uses femininity as a mask and a manipulation, playing at care where there is none. The reversed advice: restore naturalness and a boundary to your feelings. Give warmth without losing yourself, and do not mistake rescuing for love. Beside the water and fire suits especially: the pull to rescue everyone risks turning into emotional burnout.

How it differs from Waite

Queen of Cups — Rider-Waite-Smith deck
Rider-Waite-SmithQueen of Cups
Manara Erotic TarotQueen of Water

In the Waite tradition the Queen of Cups is a pensive queen by the water with a closed, ornate cup: intuition, depth of feeling, a loving, sensitive heart. Manara keeps the watery, sensual nature but bares it literally: a naked woman in the rain, the goddess of fertility. Where Waite says 'a deep, intuitive love', Manara adds — a natural sensuality and mercy that have a shadow: the role of the all-rescuing 'mother figure' who dissolves into care.
